Play Therapy
Play therapy is a therapeutic approach to support children who are struggling with emotional regulation, life adjustments, sleep issues/nightmares, anxiety, depression, trauma, and clinical diagnoses.
Play is the language of children, and toys are their words. Children use play and toys to express their inner world and feelings. When a child needs support, play therapy is a natural way to communicate and work on hard things. Studies show learning that occurs in play is overall faster and develops neuropathways quicker than any other method.
Play therapy works on emotional expression, emotional intelligence, emotional processing, relationship building, autonomy, resilience, building self-esteem/confidence, limit setting/boundaries, and skill development.
When your child is receiving play therapy services, we are a team. As a part of the team, we will meet for parent support sessions. During parent support sessions, I will provide parenting skills based on your child’s needs and update you on the progress of their sessions.
RISE Counseling & Play Therapy has a fully stocked playroom with toys, games, sand tray, and art supplies to meet your kiddos needs and interests. Whether it is playing with toys, painting, or going outside to throw the football, my job is to figure out what will work for your kiddo. I utilize non-directive and directive play therapy based on my client’s needs.
